About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

St. Croix District School Food Authority Announces Temporary Summer Employment Opportunities for 2025 Summer Feeding Program

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s St. Croix District School Food Authority (SFA) is pleased to announce temporary employment opportunities for the 2025 Summer Feeding Program. SFA Director John Gumbs emphasizes the importance of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which ensures that children in the Virgin Islands continue to receive nutritious meals even when school is not in session. Sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the SFSP operates during the summer months and provides free meals that meet federal nutrition guidelines.

The St. Croix School Food Authority invites interested individuals to apply for temporary positions with the 2025 Summer Food Service Program. All applicants must submit a completed application form along with a valid photo ID and Social Security card. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 18, 2025.

Application forms are available at the Virgin Islands Department of Education’s main office, located at 2133 Hospital Street, Christiansted, VI 00820. Forms can also be downloaded from the VIDE website at vide.vi, or requested by phone at (340) 773-1095 ext. 7073 to have one emailed directly.

Please ensure the application is fully completed before submission. Incomplete applications will not be processed or accepted. Completed applications can be submitted in person to the VIDE office or emailed to irivette.rivera@vide.vi and john.gumbs@vide.vi.

The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:

VIRGIN ISLANDS STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN STATE MATHCOUNTS COMPETITION

The Virgin Islands Department of Education, in partnership with Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, announces the 2025 Virgin Islands State MATHCOUNTS Competition, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the 13D Innovation Center on the Orville Kean Campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.

This math competition brings together the brightest middle school minds across the Territory to engage in rigorous problem-solving challenges, fostering a passion for mathematics and critical thinking. The event will feature 20 top Mathletes from six schools, representing both the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John Districts:

St. Croix District teams include Good Hope Country Day School, Church of God Holiness Academy, and Free Will Baptist Christian School

St. Thomas-St. John District teams include Antilles School, Lockhart K-8 School, and Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School

The competition will begin at 9:30 am with the Written Competition, followed by the Countdown Round at 12:30 PM, which will be open to the public. The top four Mathletes from the competition will advance to the National MATHCOUNTS Competition, where they will compete against students from across the United States and its territories.

MATHCOUNTS is a nationally recognized program designed to promote excellence in mathematics among middle school students, nurturing a love for problem-solving while enhancing critical-thinking skills. The program plays a vital role in preparing students for future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)—fields essential to the global economy.

Parents, educators, and community members are encouraged to support and celebrate these young scholars at the Countdown Round, an exciting, fast-paced event where students race against the clock to solve challenging math problems.

Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Division of Music Education & Programs Announces St. Thomas-St. John District Music ME – Music Education Month Concert Finale

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) proudly presents the St. Thomas-St. John District Music ME – Music Education Month Concert Finale on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The highly anticipated event will take place at the Digna M. Wheatley Gymnasium, Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students/children.

The finale concert will showcase the remarkable talent of students from the following schools:

  • Joseph Sibilly Elementary
  • Joseph Gomez Elementary
  • Yvonne E. Milliner-Bowsky Elementary
  • Ulla F. Muller Elementary
  • Lockhart K-8 School
  • Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School
  • Ivanna Eudora Kean High School
  • Charlotte Amalie High School

The evening will feature performances by student Steel Pan Orchestras, Choirs, and School Bands. A highlight of the night will be a special combined band performance featuring students from Sibilly, Gomez, Bowsky, and Lockhart schools, as well as collaborative performances by middle, junior high, and senior high school students.

Additional Music is ME – Music Education Month Events:

St. Croix District Music is ME Concert Finale on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School Auditorium at 6:00 p.m. Admisison: $10 Adults | $5 Students/Children.

Music is ME Day - Thursday, March 27, 2025, dedicated to celebrating music in education.

Wellness Wednesday on St. John – March 12, 2025, at the St. John School of the Arts from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Featuring: The Ronald Lee Experience.
