The Virgin Islands Department of Education, in partnership with Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, announces the 2025 Virgin Islands State MATHCOUNTS Competition, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the 13D Innovation Center on the Orville Kean Campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.
This math competition brings together the brightest middle school minds across the Territory to engage in rigorous problem-solving challenges, fostering a passion for mathematics and critical thinking. The event will feature 20 top Mathletes from six schools, representing both the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John Districts:
St. Croix District teams include Good Hope Country Day School, Church of God Holiness Academy, and Free Will Baptist Christian School
St. Thomas-St. John District teams include Antilles School, Lockhart K-8 School, and Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School
The competition will begin at 9:30 am with the Written Competition, followed by the Countdown Round at 12:30 PM, which will be open to the public. The top four Mathletes from the competition will advance to the National MATHCOUNTS Competition, where they will compete against students from across the United States and its territories.
MATHCOUNTS is a nationally recognized program designed to promote excellence in mathematics among middle school students, nurturing a love for problem-solving while enhancing critical-thinking skills. The program plays a vital role in preparing students for future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)—fields essential to the global economy.
Parents, educators, and community members are encouraged to support and celebrate these young scholars at the Countdown Round, an exciting, fast-paced event where students race against the clock to solve challenging math problems.
