About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

Early Dismissal at Claude O. Markoe Elementary

ST. CROIX, USVI – The Claude O. Markoe Elementary School is being dismissed early, effective immediately, due to a water service interruption impacting the campus. Students will revert to virtual learning for the remainder of the day. Parents are asked to pick up their children from the school, as school-bus service will not be available.
Crews are addressing the situation. The Department of Education will provide an update on the status of the Claude O. Markoe campus for Nov. 18.

Meal Distribution Postponed at Ed. Complex High School and Eulalie Rivera K-8 School

Meal Distribution Postponed at Ed. Complex High School and Eulalie Rivera K-8 School

The V.I. Department of Education's "No V.I. Child Goes Hungry Feeding Initiative" will postpone public distribution of meals at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School and the Eulalie R. Rivera K-8 School until further notice.

Students attending in-person classes at Eulalie Rivera are not affected and will be fed breakfast and lunch at the scheduled times.

Affected families may pick up meals from any of the other open sites:

  • Juanita Gardine K-8 School 
  • Lew Muckle Elementary School
  • Alfredo Andrews Elementary School 
  • John H. Woodson Jr. High School 
  • St. Croix Central High School
  • Arthur A. Richards K-8 Modular Campus 
  • Claude O. Markoe Elementary School 

The Department will provide an update on when the two sites would resume meal distribution, and thanks to parents and students for their patience.

St. Croix Headquarters Closed Due to Scheduled Electrical Upgrade

The Virgin Islands Department of Education will close its St. Croix headquarters on Oct. 28 to accommodate a scheduled electrical upgrade throughout the building. 

Employees who have the capability to telework will do so. 

Normal office operations are expected to resume on Oct. 29.
