About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Joseph Gomez Elementary School will remain closed on Wed., Sept. 29, and will revert to virtual learning for all students on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Normal, in-person operations are expected to resume for K-3rd and special education self-contained students on Mon., Oct. 4.

The school is mourning the loss of paraprofessional Kima Lloyd-Jarvis, who passed away on Monday.

ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Joseph Gomez Elementary School will be closed on Sept. 28 due to the passing of a staff member.

District leaders have activated the crisis response team to make counseling services available to anyone in need.

The school is expected to resume normal operations on Sept. 29.

The Department of Education extends sincere condolences to the Joseph Gomez Elementary School family, the St. Thomas-St. John District, and to the family, friends, and loved ones of our late employee.

ST. THOMAS, USVI – All in-person Kindergarten classes at the Joseph Gomez Elementary School will be dismissed at 11 a.m. today, due to an electrical service interruption affecting classrooms.

Parents are asked to pick up their children from the school campus. Students will be served breakfast and lunch before they depart.

Other classrooms at the school are not affected and will continue in-person learning.

Technicians have been informed of the service interruption and repairs are expected to be completed later today.

In-person classes for Gomez Kindergarten students will resume on Sept. 28.

The Department of Education thanks teachers, parents, and students for their patience as the matter is resolved.
