School Report Card

The Virgin Islands School Report Card offers you important information about the progress of the Virgin Islands' public education system at the territory, district, and school levels.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is transforming its accountability system. On December 10, 2015, President Barack Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which reauthorized and updated the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The new law provides states more authority on how to educate students best, test students' achievement levels, provide students with the support and interventions they need, and how to best track a state's progress to accomplishing these goals.

2015-16 to Present school years are considered a transition period as the new ESSA school and district accountability system is implemented. During the transition period, the VIDE will continue to report on students' academic performance across the territory. Full implementation of the Virgin Islands accountability system under ESSA will occur in the 2024-2025 school year.

Special Notes:

The VIDE did not administer the territory-wide assessments of learning during the school year 2017-18 due to damages to the technological infrastructure and loss of instructional time due to Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The end-of-year assessments were not administered in 2019-2020 because of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There were significant changes to the 2020-2021 administration of the territory-wide assessments. Comparisons with assessment data from other school years may not be appropriate because of the mode of administration (students participated in testing remotely), participation rates, length of test, changes in learning opportunities, impact of trauma, shifts in access to services due to quarantine, and test impropriety differences.

Thank you for visiting.

Public schools on St. Croix will be open on Friday, September 6th.

St. Croix Superintendent Gary Molloy met with District principals early Thursday afternoon to assess the state of the schools --which were closed early Thursday morning due to inclement weather. Molloy said that power has been restored to most campuses and that no school reported any major problems.

"We're ready to go," Molloy said after the meeting.

The District's maintenance team has been working to address any additional issues. The Department will continue to provide the public with updates as more information becomes available.
