For Coaches

All individuals chosen to coach a VIDE school sports team will have to sign the agreement below and submit to the Division of Sports and Athletics for each sport's team they coach prior to their season. It must also be submitted when requesting a stipend.

All sports coaches who currently coach a VIDE school sports team should now be certified. Coaches whose certification(s) has expired can not receive a stipend. Coaches of teams whose sports do not start until later in the year should continue working on their certification or recertification. But remember, School Principals can only choose certified coaches who are on the coaches list.

General Documents Required for Travel

Because the document is a PDF form it must be downloaded to your computer and then opened in order to be filled out. Click on enable all features if it comes up. When filling out the forms please start at the top and go down. Once information is filled in, if the same information is asked for again it will be automatically filled in. When finished filling in the forms please save it using a different name and then print it. This should make completing the forms much easier.

For off-island travel, three letters are also required: from Principal to Insular Superintendent, from Insular Superintendent to Commissioner and from Commissioner to Governor. The letter should include the reason and justification for travel, the students names who are traveling and a space for the letter to be approved. Contact the Division of Sports and Athletics for letter templates.

Any individual interested in coaching a Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) school sports team, must be VIDE Sports Certified. VIDE Sports certified coaches certification from NFHS is good for three years. Additionally, individuals must complete a Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) criminal record check within the current school year,on an annual basis. Certification certificate(s) and the original criminal record document must be submitted to the Division of Sports and Athletics (DSA). Only individuals who are eligible to coach will be placed on the coaches roster for selection. Only individuals on the coaches certification roster are eligble for a stipend.

Anyone interested in becoming a certified coach should go to the nfhslearn.com website and register, pay for the required courses fee and start working on the courses. You will still have to attend a coaches certification workshop to complete the process.

Go to the NFHSLearn.com website to find out more information about the online courses. You can register for free First click on the menu bar where it says courses. When choosing a course choose, click on the photo next to the course name. When ask for which state, choose "outside of the USA" The price for the course will then show. When paying for the course choose US Virgin Islands as your country.

The required online courses and their fees for coaching certification are:

1. Coaching of the Specific Sport $50 to $75 depending on the sport

2. Fundamentals of Coaching $50

3. The Collapsed Athlete $Free

4. First Aid, Health and Safety $ 35

5. Protecting Students From Abuse Free

6. Concussion in Sports Free

Tackle Football Coaches must also complete the online course Blocking, Tackling and Equipment Fitting $10 on the NFHSlearn.com page to be certified.

Specific Sports Skills live clinics will be offered in the future. Approximately $25

During an exciting weekend of basketball at the IAA/McDonald's MLK Basketball Tournament on St. Thomas, the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School boys' team clinched the title of Varsity Basketball Champions by defeating the Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) Hawks with a final score of 71-61. The CAHS girls' team participated in the Championship game against the Las Vegas Coral Academy of Science but fell short, concluding with a final score of 51-24.

The tournament's Most Valuable Players (MVPs) were Jayden Dixie for the boys and Riley Ladislao for the girls. Recognized for their sportsmanship were Bethel Birru for the girls and Guyma Plebe for the boys.

Commissioner Wells-Hedrington and Superintendent Dr. Stefan Jürgen attend the games, cheering on our student-athletes and presenting trophies and medals to the victorious teams. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our athletes for their extraordinary efforts on the basketball court. #PublicSchoolProud
