About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

ROSS CARES FOUNDATION DONATES BACKPACKS TO STUDENTS FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

At the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the Ross Cares Foundation generously donated 400 backpacks filled with school supplies across the St. Thomas-St. John District. In partnership with the Virgin Islands Department of Education, Mr. Delroy Ross donated backpacks to students at the Ulla F. Muller Elementary School, Julius E. Sprauve Elementary School, Lockhart K-8 School, Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School, and the Charlotte Amalie High School with the assistance of Ms. Cherise Thomas and Mr. Nosakhere Richardson. 

 

Mr. Ross also extended his charitable donation to a number of civic and non-profit organizations on St. Thomas and St. John. He provided backpacks and tote bags filled with essential care items and toiletries. Organizations included the Family Resource Center, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, St. Thomas Church of Christ, Ebenezer Gardens Senior Citizen Center, Yellow Cedar Residence, New Testament Girl Scout Troupe, Bright Beginners on St. John, and Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on St. John. 

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is grateful for the ongoing donations provided by the Ross Cares Foundation. This act of kindness greatly benefits students and provides them with needed resources and supplies to start the school year. This initiative was organized by Ms. Jerae Allyson Forde, Director of the St. Thomas-St. John District Office of School and Community Affairs.

ST. CROIX EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX SCHOOL RECEIVES ALL CLEAR FROM VIPD REGARDING SCHOOL THREAT

The St. Croix Educational Complex received a school threat on Thursday, August 17, 2023. School administrators and monitors immediately investigated the threat and activated all security protocols. VIPD Officers were called to the scene and provided an all clear. No weapon was used or found on the campus. The school is still in session and all safety measures have been implemented with increased police presence. Mr. Irvin Mason, Director of School Safety and Disaster Planning and St. Croix Superintendent Dr. Ericilda Ottley-Herman will appear on today’s Virgin Islands Community Connect episode at 4:00pm via VIDE Facebook Live to discuss this incident and other concerns regarding school safety across the territory.

VIRGIN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION’S DIVISION OF MUSIC EDUCATION AND PROGRAMS ANNOUNCES START OF 2023 MUSIC MONDAYS SERIES

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Division of Music Education and Programs is pleased to announce the start of its 2023 Music Mondays Series in recognition of Music in Our Schools Month. The first episode will serve as a High School Band Directors Edition and feature band directors from the territory’s public high schools: Akeel A. Breedy, Charlotte Amalie High School; Shamoi A. Rodgers, Ivanna Eudora Kean High School; Sacha T. Alexander, St. Croix Central High School; and Kevre L. Hendricks, St. Croix Educational Complex High School. The episode will be hosted by Ms. Dionne R. Donadelle, Territorial Director of the Music Education and Programs Division. The mission of the Division of Music Education and Programs is to provide a comprehensive standards-based music education program that will ensure a lifelong pursuit of learning, through the use of technological and musical resources. The Division strives to develop globally competitive students through challenging performance programs, in collaboration with academics and professional experiences that encourage cultural and creative innovation.
