About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

ST. CROIX EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX HIGH SCHOOL AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER RESUMES SCHOOL OPERATIONS AFTER FRADULENT BOMB THREAT

The St. Croix Educational Complex High School and Career and Technical Educational Center has resumed operations after responding to a fraudulent bomb threat. The incident began with a call on December 7, 2023, shortly after 11:00 am, indicating a potential bomb threat to the school campus.

 

Immediately upon receiving this information, school officials promptly contacted 911 and initiated evacuation and security procedures. In accordance with safety protocols, students were safely escorted to the University of the Virgin Islands campus to ensure their well-being.

 

Subsequently, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) conducted a sweep of the campus to identify any potential threats. After their inspection and finding no evidence of any danger on the premises, the VIPD granted the "all clear" signal. The St. Croix Educational Complex High School and Career and Technical Educational Center has now resumed operations, providing assurance that all students, faculty, and staff are secure.

 

The incident is under further investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department to ascertain the specific details and circumstances surrounding the reported bomb threat. Students are reminded of the seriousness of making any kind of threats that could compromise the safety of fellow students and school personnel.

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education expresses gratitude to the VIPD for their ongoing collaborative efforts in effectively addressing incidents on school campuses.

ALL CLEAR RECEIVED FOR LOCKHART K-8 SCHOOL AND CAMPUS RESUMES SCHOOL OPERATIONS

On Monday, December 4, 2023, the Virgin Islands Police Department received a report of a potential threat at Lockhart K-8 School on St. Thomas through a 911 call. The caller conveyed information about a student allegedly carrying a loaded weapon on the school campus. In response, the Virgin Islands Department of Education was immediately informed, prompting Lockhart K-8 School to initiate a comprehensive lockdown procedure.

School officials activated safety and security protocols to ensure the well-being of students, faculty, and staff while the VIPD conducted a thorough sweep of the campus. Subsequent to the VIPD's diligent safety inspection, school authorities received the "all clear" signal, confirming the absence of any threat on the campus. Consequently, Lockhart K-8 School has resumed normal school operations, with assurance that all students, faculty, and staff are secure.

The incident will be subject to further investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department to ascertain the details and circumstances surrounding the reported threat. LOCKHART K-8 SCHOOL ON LOCK DOWN PENDING ALL CLEAR OF SCHOOL THREAT

The Virgin Islands Department of Education informs the public that the Lockhart K-8 School on St. Thomas is currently on a full school lock down as safety and security protocols are being executed regarding a school threat. Parents are asked to not report to the campus until the all clear is provided by the Virgin Islands Police Department.
