About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

Virgin Islands Department of Education State Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education Announces 2024 CTE Fair on St. Croix

The State Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education at the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Fair, scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024. This year's event will take place at Buddhoe Park on St. Croix from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students from both the St. Thomas-St. John District and the St. Croix District will actively participate in this event, showcasing their diverse skill sets within career and technical education.

 

The CTE Fair, held annually in February, aligns with Career and Technical Education Month, aiming to raise awareness of the value and achievements of CTE programs nationwide. At the Virgin Islands Department of Education, the mission of the State Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education is to create a unified education system that embraces cultural diversities, addresses disabilities, and encompasses trades and skill sets. The goal is to support an equitable and inclusive academic, career, and technical education teaching and learning environment, resulting in a skilled workforce, and heightened economic development in the United States Virgin Islands.

 

St. Thomas-St. John District CTE Program Offerings (High School Level)

National Academy of Finance (NAF), Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, Childcare Management, Automotive Repair, Auto Body and Fender, Cosmetology, Clothing Construction, Electricity, Electronics, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Architectural Drafting, Plumbing, and Office Administrative Systems. Upcoming course offerings include Aviation Drone and Aviation Flying.

 

St. Croix District CTE Program Offerings (Secondary Level)

Accounting, Business Management, Finance, Marketing, Tourism, Business, Computer Engineering, Agriculture Technology, Aviation Mechanical Technology, Auto Body, Childcare Management, Clothing Construction, Cosmetology, Electricity, Millwright, and Welding. Upcoming course offerings include Aviation Drone and Aviation Flying.

PRESS RELEASE 0101-24 Public Schools Resume Operations on Monday, January 8, 2024

Virgin Islands Department of Education Issues Reminder that All

Public Schools Will Resume Operations on Monday, January 8, 2024

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education extends warm wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year and welcomes all students, faculty, and staff back to school on Monday, January 8, 2024.

 

Students, parents, and guardians are advised that today is the last day of the school break and are reminded that all public schools throughout the Territory will resume operations on Monday, January 8th, for the start of the third marking period.

 

ST. THOMAS/ST. JOHN DISTRICT

  • All public schools will re-open according to their normal school operational hours.
    • Buses will also provide transportation services.

ST. CROIX DISTRICT 

  • John H. Woodson will operate virtually from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as school repairs are being completed.

 

  • The St. Croix Central High School, St. Croix Educational Complex High School, and the St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center will operate on a hybrid schedule with a virtual Flex Block daily. Students will receive in-person instruction from 7:40 a.m. to 1:05 p.m., with a hybrid Flex Block.

 

    • On January 16, 2023, these three school sites will transition back to full day instruction from 7:40 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Student schedules are currently live on the PowerSchool portal.

 

  • Eulalie Rivera Pre-K to 8 School will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

  • All PreK-6 elementary schools (Ricardo Richards, Lew Muckle, Alfredo Andrews, and Claude O. Markoe) will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

  • Pearl B. Larsen and Juanita Gardine PreK-8 Schools will operate from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

 

  • Bus transportation will be provided.

VIRGIN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STATEMENT ON INCIDENT AT EULALIE RIVERA SCHOOL

The Virgin Islands Department of Education is actively addressing a recent incident at the Eulalie Rivera Pre-K to 8 School on St. Croix, involving a school monitor and a student. Acknowledging the circulation of a video depicting the incident that transpired earlier today, St. Croix District Superintendent Ericilda Herman, Ed. D. wants to assure the public that the department is fully committed to conducting a thorough investigation.

 

At the VIDE, the paramount concern is the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, and staff. In light of the ongoing investigation, Superintendent Ericilda Herman affirms that the department will diligently gather accurate information and implement all necessary protocols. The VIDE remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency and ensuring a resolution to the matter at hand.
