The Ivanna Eudora Kean High School Music Department welcomed the fall season with a spectacular showcase of students' musical talents at the "It's All In the Reel: Let's Get Animated" concert held October 23 at the Kean Cafe.
In the first act of the two-part concert, the stellar line up of musical performances included selections from the Harmonic Rays, directed by Ms. Monet Davis; the Devil Rays Steel Orchestra, directed by Mr. Glenn Elskoe; the Devil Rays Steel Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble, directed by Mr. Anthony Nibbs; Dynamites Finest dance troupe, directed by Dr. Nicole A. C-Syms and Ms. Kellisha Joefield. After a 10-minute intermission, audience members--comprised of school administrators and teachers, parents, students and members of the community--were treated to performances from Maroon Men, directed by Ms. Monet Davis; Dynamite Rays Concert Band, directed by Mr. Brandon Reburn and the grand finale featured selections from the Dynamite Rays Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Shamoi Rodgers.
The concert's music kept in line with the evening's animation theme and featured songs from popular Disney films, such as "The Lion King," "Pocahontas," "An American Tail," "Tarzan," "Timon & Pumba," "Fantaisa," "The Little Mermaid," the "Flinstones" and "Toy Story." Scenes from the movies were projected on a big screen above the stage as students performed or danced to the scores.
IEKHS holiday concert is slated for Monday, December 19.
