On March 21, the Joseph Gomez Lions bested the Ulla F. Muller Panthers 14-13 to capture the 2016-17 Girls' Elementary Softball Championship.
The Ulla Muller Panthers were down 12-4 at the start of the final inning of the game, but mounted a strong comeback with nine runs at the top of the 6th inning, bringing them ahead 13-12. The Joseph Gomez Lions in their last at bat was led by Ronisha Cuffy's bat with a leadoff double advancing to third on an error. Cuffy was knocked in by J'Nia Celestine, reaching base on an error tying the score at 13-13. Nekeyla Amey, in her efforts for the Ulla Muller Panthers, struck out a batter with a runner on third, resulting in two outs. N'Quana Davis put the ball in play, of which Nekeyla made a play to the plate with Celestine scoring the winning run to end the game.
