DESCRIPTION

An employee in this class performs under the general supervision of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Territorial Program Director. The program assistant is responsible for supporting the Director in implementing and managing program and administrative activities. The Program Assistant will work and support a team approach for guiding the framework and delivery of the PBIS mission. The position is exempt, full-time; 12 months.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Assists with the preparation and implementation of PBIS goals, activities and the evaluation design;
  • Schedules meetings and assist with materials and logistics;
  • Oversees office systems, administrative needs, filing and record-keeping;
  • Prepares letters, travel packages, requisitions, and expense claims or checks for signature;
  • Demonstrates unremitting effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless service;
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that supports a professional work environment;
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills by communicating in a highly professional manner;
  • Provides information regarding program, trainings, policies, and procedures to internal and external contacts;
  • Keeps records, maintains files, and writes program activity summaries;
  • Works as part of a team and displays willingness to communicate problems to the supervisor;
  • Assists in keeping office setting neat and organized;
  • Assist with implementation of activities, including aiding with logistics and with writing and producing materials;
  • Assists with program data needs of PBIS activities, including running reports from Power School;
  • Assists with weekly/monthly tracking of PBIS District Coaches school taskforce team meetings and site visits;
  • Assist with the distribution and collection of the SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) Screening Tool, School Climate Survey, and Team Initiated Problem Solving-Fidelity Checklist (TIPS-FC) individual school forms;
  • Assist with weekly/monthly tracking of vendor and contractual payments;
  • Ensures timely payment of invoices;
  • Assists with the maintenance of the VIDE PBIS Webpage to publicize program activities and goals;
  • Provides reporting analysis of professional development needs, training content and assist with materials and logistics;
  • Assist with fundraising activities to foster PBIS sustainability in the Territory;
  • Perform school site visits in the Territory as needed;
  • Occasional travel is required;
  • Must have a current driver’s license and the ability to use own car;
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher) or other budgeting or office related software;

  • Ability to communicate orally with administrators, parents, or the public in face-to-face one-to- one settings, via telephone or in group settings;

FACTOR V: SCOPE AND EFFECT

  • Responsible for performing administrative staff assignments and office management work for the PBIS program in order to advance the goals and objectives of the agency.

FACTOR VI, VII: PERSONAL CONTACT AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

  • Contacts are with co-workers, supervisor and other administrative officials to provide administrative

staff support in the areas of fiscal management, personnel management, and other administrative functions and to represent the PBIS program in the Territory.

FACTOR VII: PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Sit and/or stand for long periods;
  • Talk and hear within normal range;
  • Reach with hands and arms;
  • Read fine print, and review information on a PC monitor, as well as, hard copy output;
  • Manipulate objects with fingers. For example, using a keyboard;
  • Drive a car;
  • Move about and exert some physical dexterity.

FACTOR VIII: WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work environment involves normal everyday hazards or discomforts typical of offices, meeting and training rooms;
  • Comfortable  levels  of  temperature,  ventilation,  lighting  and  sound  are  inherent  in  the  work environment;
  • Exposure to deviations from pleasant environmental conditions is only occasional;
  • The likelihood of injury is remote.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Psychology, Humanities, Social Work, Business or other related field and two (2) years of progressive experience in an analytical role with strong writing, research and communication skills.

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the school principal the individual would perform the duties of guidance counseling in a public school setting. An employee in this class works as a member of the school staff and is responsible for providing comprehensive guidance to all students with a focus on acceptance of self, decision making and effective communication for improving human relation skills. Classroom guidance is provided to teachers to assist in areas such as career education, career decision- making, study and test taking skills, building self-esteem and establishing positive teacher and parent involvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Assists parents, teachers, and administrators in relating positively to students by improving human relation skills;
  • Confers with teachers to develop management strategies to meet the needs of individual students;
  • Counsels with students on an individual and/or small group on the management of personal, social, educational, and career concerns;
  • Remains steadily available to students to provide individual and/or group counseling (with common concerns) that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity;
  • Assists teachers in identifying potential drop outs and consults with teachers on alternative teaching strategies/techniques to seek alternative programs;
  • Confers with teachers to develop management strategies to meet the needs of individual students;
  • Helps students evaluate career interests and choices;
  • Participates in-service training programs promoted by the district;
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the testing program and interprets test results to students, parents, and school personnel;
  • Encourages parental visits as a means of increasing parental awareness of various programs available to students;
  • Consults with psychologists, special education personnel, and other specialists concerning students with specific learning, emotional, or other problems;
  • Participates in the development of special programs for the school;
  • Provides classroom guidance activities as determined by a needs assessment;
  • Conduct career and educational planning activities;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of federal and local laws as it pertains to school counseling;
  • Considerable knowledge of counseling theories, departmental policy, regulations, and procedures applicable to the school counseling program;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to cooperate and collaborate with other professionals in enhancing the education of students;
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate detailed records;
  • Ability to exercise patience while dealing with students;
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with all those contacted during the course of work and demonstrate sensitivity and empathy;
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in carrying out functions of the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling; and
  • Meet certification requirements as required by the Virgin Islands Board of Education

DESCRIPTION

A secondary school teacher provides instruction at the junior or senior high school level in a specific content area. The teacher uses various teaching methods, including lecture and demonstration, audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations with the ultimate objective of preparing students for advanced education and/or the job market.  Certification in the academic subject area is required. This is a ten-month position.  Teachers are represented by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following the curriculum guidelines and requirements of the territory and school;
  • Prepares materials and classroom for class activities;
  • Assigns lessons and corrects homework;
  • Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress;
  • Keeps attendance records and maintains accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulation;
  • Maintains discipline in classroom and enforces all administration policies and rules governing students;
  • Meets with parents/guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine priorities and resource needs for their children;
  • Confers with parents/guardians, other teachers, counselors and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems;
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops;
  • Performs related duties, such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems;
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates those objectives to students;
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests;
  • Observes and evaluates students’ performance, behavior social development and physical health;
  • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate;
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks;
  • Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests;
  • Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage;
  • Prepares for assigned classes, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors;
  • Uses computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations;
  • Prepares objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements
  • of states and schools;
  • Meets with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress;
  • Prepares and implements remedial programs for students requiring extra help;
  • Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence;
  • Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved
  • curricula;
  • Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation and revision of secondary school programs;
  • Prepares reports on students and activities as required by administration;
  • Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories classroom equipment, materials and supplies;
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guides students’ learning in those activities;
  • Administers standardized aptitude and achievement tests, and interprets results to determine students’ strengths and areas of need;
  • Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests;
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required;
  • Performs administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading;
  • Performs tasks and assumes duties as required by the school principal or designee.

Makes decisions that involve a great deal of responsibility.

  • Is responsible for the planning and implementation of instructional programs so that students achieve individual maximum potential to redound to benefit of the student and the community.

  • Personal contact is made with students, fellow employees, supervisors, administrators, and parents/guardians for the purpose of obtaining, clarifying, or giving facts or information to aid in accomplishing daily tasks and long term objectives for students and the Department..

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, inclusive of thirty (30) semester credits in Education, and at least 30 semester credits in core academic area; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in the core academic area and thirty (30) semester credits in Education; and
  • Virgin Islands Board of Education certification eligible.
