The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Division of Music Education and Programs, under the leadership of Territorial Director Dionne Donadelle, will debut the newly formed Music Educators (ME) ensemble at WICO’s popular Jazz on the Dock event, slated for Tuesday, September 20. Music educators in the St. Thomas-St. John district will showcase their talents as highly qualified musicians as they open the event with a series of musical selections.
According to Donadelle, ME is an initiative geared toward the professional development of music educators in Virgin Islands’ schools. The innovative platform is designed to provide teachers with the support they need through discussions, as well as implementation of existing and newly developed techniques and policies. ME also offers assistance and helps create opportunities for its members to perform locally and abroad.
Of the new initiative, Donadelle said, “This effort is to provide the community greater understanding and appreciation for the fine art of music, while enhancing the skill set of music educators.”
The ME chapter for music educators in the St. Croix district will begin activities in the month of October.
