The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces Phase 1: Public School Operations for Thursday, October 5, 2023. Comprehensive assessments are being conducted in phases to determine the extent of weather-related effects from Tropical Storm Philippe, as well as to assess the impact of power outages from the Water and Power Authority (WAPA) on school campuses.
As a result, for Phase 1 reporting, the listed public schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District and St. Croix District will operate according to the following schedule. Further information regarding remaining public schools will be shared with the public in a Phase 2: Public School Operations press release that will be released this morning. Our dedicated assessment teams are diligently working to ensure that all campuses are in a suitable condition to welcome back students, faculty, and staff. This includes ensuring that essential utilities such as power and potable water are readily available.
PHASE 1- PUBLIC SCHOOL OPERATIONS (Thursday, October 5, 2023)
CLOSED SCHOOLS: The following school will remain closed for additional maintenance and cleaning to be implemented.
- St. Croix District- Central High School
- Faculty at Central High School will email assignments to students via Teams/Schoology.
VIRTUAL LEARNING: The following school will conduct instruction virtually.
- St. Thomas-St. John District- Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School
INSTRUCTIONAL PACKETS: The following school will distribute instructional packets for pickup by parents/guardians from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. Faculty are required to report in by 8:30am.
- St. Croix District- Eulalie R. Rivera K-8
In the Phase 2: Public School Operations press release, information on remaining schools will be publicly shared. Parents, guardians, and students are kindly asked to remain vigilant and stay updated by monitoring VIDE announcements and VIPD alerts.
