Forty-one kindergarten students showcased their future careers at the 2018 promotional ceremony of the Alexander Henderson Elementary School, held at the Claude O. Markoe Elementary School auditorium on June 26.
Kindergarten students D’Shawn Alexander and Larissa Lamothe served as masters of ceremonies, welcoming their classmates, parents, teachers, faculty and staff to the program.
Principal Natasha O’ Halloran-Smith gave opening remarks.
“I just love this happy group of students, who are just ready to display their future careers this morning,” she said, adding, “To all of the promotees, you are going to be wonderful at your career because you’re off to a great start, and I know that you all are real stars. Students, congratulations. You are ready for the first grade.”
The students thanked their teachers and paraprofessionals before giving class presentations. Ms. Joann Camacho’s class recited, “How Far I Will Go” and Ms. Kathleen Plaskett’s class recited, “All About Ten.”
The two classes jointly recited “When I Grow Up,” a poem that highlights the various career interests of the students.
“I could be a doctor to make everyone well. I could be a scientist to find a cure for diseases,” the students declared.
Principal O’Halloran-Smith, Assistant Principal Loraine Cadet and Board of Education representative, Winona Hendricks presented students with certificates for successfully completing kindergarten. Ms. Camacho and Ms. Plaskett individually recognized students for their academic improvements, academic strengths and behavior.
Ms. Hendricks offered the young learners and their parents inspiring words.
“This year was a very rough school year, but as you can see your children are achievers, they are striving hard to do well,” she said. “They have identified for you so many careers that we’re going to need in this particular community.”
Following the students’ performance of their class song “Kinderfunk,” Assistant Principal Cadet gave closing remarks.
“Students, remember that you can be whatever you want to be,” she said. “Parents, guardians, family and friends, thank you so very much for helping us this school year. It was not an easy school year, but you guys did an awesome job.”
