The campus of the Virgin Islands Department of Education, Adult Education Programs in Estate Richmond, St. Croix, is sporting a facelift, courtesy of the Department of Public Works (DPW).
Principal Debra Abel said Adult Education Administrative Secretary Arlene Vallade contacted Public Works to smooth out the once-uneven entrance to the school’s campus. “The response was outpouring,” she said. “Not only did they (DPW) come and assist with our driveway, but they cleared branches and pruned bushes from around the campus, making it more visible and attractive to our adult learners.”
The team of DPW workers authorized by Denis Brow, DPW assistant commissioner, patched pot holes near the entrance, scraped drains, cleared branches away from the wall near the roadside and spruced up the campus in general.
“It is great feeling that they could come out and lend a hand,” Abel said gratefully. “Departments working hand-in-hand and networking with each other can only ensure overall success, and our students are comforted that their campus is now more conducive to learning.”
Along with Assistant Commissioner Brow, Principal Abel expresses thanks to DPW Specialist Shelton Shulterbrandt, for executing the mandate from the Assistant Commissioner; Hugh Nicholas, DPW project supervisor for mobilizing the team who performed the work; DPW Officer Peggy Franco, for expediting the request; and the crew that completed each task.
