Virgin Islands Department of Education Announces Regional Science Bowl Finals Set for Friday, March 7, 2025, on St. Thomas

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces the VI Regional Science Bowl Finals, scheduled for March 7, 2025, at 10:00 am at the UVI Innovation Center on St. Thomas. This highly anticipated competition will showcase winning teams from both the St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John Districts, following intense district playoffs that engaged approximately 110 students in a fast-paced, question-and-answer tournament. Participants demonstrated their knowledge across multiple disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy, earth science, and energy.

A prestigious science competition, the Virgin Islands Regional Science Bowl is hosted in partnership with Brookhaven National Laboratory and is part of the National Science Bowl® (NSB), coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Since its inception in 1991, the National Science Bowl® has engaged over 325,000 high school students nationwide, fostering a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and inspiring future careers in these fields.

During the finals, students will compete in a double-elimination format, where teams must answer complex scientific questions with accuracy and speed. The winning team will be crowned the Virgin Islands Regional Science Bowl Champion and receive a first-place trophy. Additionally, top-performing teams will earn the opportunity to compete at the National Science Bowl® in Washington, D.C., from April 21–28, 2025.

The High School Division will feature teams from: St. Croix Educational Complex High School, Good Hope Country Day School, Charlotte Amalie High School, and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.

The Middle School Division will be represented by teams from: Church of God (Holiness) Academy, Eulalie Rivera PreK-8 School, Juanita Gardine PreK-8 School, Good Hope Country Day School, Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School, and Lockhart K-8 School.

VIDE is excited to host this premier academic event and encourages the community to support and celebrate these talented young minds as they compete for regional and national recognition.  For additional information, please contact: Gerald Walters at gerald.walters@vide.vi or Joann Lewis at joann.lewis@vide.vi.
