Symra Dee Brown, Ph.D.
______________________________________________________________

Symra Dee Brown, Ph.D.  is a perpetual learner who is a proud product of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Education public school system.  After graduation from Charlotte Amalie High School in 1984, she attended Bethune-Cookman College to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1989 and immediately after attained a Master’s of Science degree at Nova Southeastern University.  During the summer of 1989, she signed her first teaching contract with the county of West Palm Beach, Florida and after three years, moved to Dade County, Florida where she served for eight years as Elementary Teacher, Teacher Leader, and Teacher Coach. In 1999, she returned home to serve the children of the Virgin Islands and began teaching at Lockhart Elementary School.  Her tenure in the Virgin Islands also involved many leadership roles to include Literacy Coach, School Improvement Team Leader, Assistant Principal and eventually Principal of the Ulla F. Muller Elementary School.  Dr. Brown holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership.

It has been a lifelong dream of Dr. Brown to join an Educational Leadership Team because of her exposure to and experience with a myriad of issues that presently persists in our educational system.  She strongly believes in the development of a community of learners because of the drastic changes occurring over the years; especially during the past decade with teaching and learning.   “We must begin with the student achievement data in order to make informed researched based decisions according to the student achievement data.  We must also make informed decisions that will positively impact the people who make up the Virgin Islands Department of Education because Education is the world’s largest human industry.” She encourages all to join the team of stakeholders responsible for the future of our community in our American Paradise.
