Not even a little rain could stop a celebration that was fit for a champ!
Monday, Nov. 5, 2018 was declared "Mahkeal Parris Day" by CHS Principal Carlos McGregor to honor 16-year-old CHS junior Mahkeal Parris, who returned to St. Croix with his parents and coach after winning the under-17 division title at the 2018 World Juniors 9-Ball Championships in Moscow on November 3. This makes Mahkeal the top billiards player in the world under the age of 17.
Mahkeal was greeted at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport by the CHS band, cheerleaders and a throng of well-wishers, including Governor Kenneth Mapp.
During brief remarks, Governor Mapp expressed his pride in Mahkeal's accomplishment and thanked the young man's parents and coaches for a job well done.
Mahkeal thanked his parents, coach, family and friends for all of their support.
Following the warm reception at the airport, Mahkeal was whisked away in a firetruck with a procession of cars following. The motorcade arrived at the CHS campus to hundreds of cheering students, faculty and staff in the rain.
During a brief ceremony in the school's parking lot, Principal McGregor praised Mahkeal's accomplishment and gave him the Keys to the School, thus declaring "today is Mahkeal Parris Day," to the cheers and applause of everyone.
Congratulations, Mahkeal!
