PBIS Staff Roll Out 2017-2018
December 7, 2017
Mrs. Meyers and the PBIS team at Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School presented PBIS to the staff in December 2017. PBIS is an evidence-based framework to improve school culture and climate. Schools create teams, with district support, to develop and implement interventions to address behavioral concerns, academic outcomes and social interaction.
The school PBIS team along with assistance from the PBIS coach, Ms. Phillipa Castro, discussed BCB’s core values, their behavioral expectation matrix, and office disciplinary referral (ODR) form. The materials presented are tools developed by the PBIS team to improve and support student behaviors and academic success.
The “BCB Buck” was also launched at this Roll Out! The BCB Buck is a reward system to encourage and praise positive student behaviors. Rewarding good behaviors increases the likelihood of those behaviors occurring again; it also encourages students to work hard and shapes intrinsic feelings about doing well.
**Congratulations to Doctor Merlene Jones, assistant principal and PBIS team member at B.C.B.M.S. Dr. Jones was recently awarded her doctorate in education. What a great accomplishment.**
