An induction ceremony was held on February 15 at Arthur A. Richards Jr. High School for six inductees into the St. Croix District's CyberPatriots program.
Six Arthur A. Richards Jr. High School students were launched into the exciting world of cybersecurity training at the first CyberPatriot Induction Ceremony held in the school's auditorium on February 15, 2017.
The seventh grade inductees will begin training at the Career and Technical Education Center on February 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Training will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. The new inductees are:
- Ivan Rojas
- Kevin Manon
- Akyel Prince
- Jahseniah Lee
- Louis Soto
- Arbelson Mora
Up until Wednesday's induction of middle school students, the CyberPatriots program in St. Croix's public schools was comprised of teams of students from St. Croix Central High School and St. Croix Educational Complex High School. CyberPatriots is the Air Force Association's National Youth Cyber Education Program, created to motivate students towards careers in cybersecurity and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
Since September 2016, high school students had been competing in the online competition with peers across the United States. Each event is completed in rounds, with the final winning teams being invited to participate in activities in Washington, D.C. this spring.
Insular Superintendent Colleen Williams and Deputy Superintendents Vaughn Hewitt and Faith Dane George attended the ceremony, along with school principals. Mr. Gregory Christian of CTEC oversees the CyberPatriots program on St. Croix. He and Colleen Clarke serves as coaches to the district's teams.
